FCT MINISTER COMMISSIONS KWALI ROAD, LINK BRIDGE
…PLEDGES TO ENSURE THAT RENEWED HOPE AGENDA REACHES ALL OF FCT
1. FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has said that the FCT Administration will continue to work towards ensuring that every nook and cranny in the territory feels the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
2. The Minister stated this on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, when he commissioned the 3.2km road leading to the Kwali township bridge in Kwali area council of the FCT.
3. Barr. Wike urged the residents of Kwali not to lose hope as the President has assured Nigerians that he will bring hope back to them, irrespective of political affiliation.
4. He said, “Mr President has said, do not lose hope, he is here to bring your hope back. And with what he has done with this road today shows, indeed, hope is coming back to our people.
5. “It is not about the party, it’s about you Nigerians. Its about you the Kwali people, its about you Abuja people, because it is not one particular party that will use this road. Even if you don’t belong to any particular party, you will still use this road. And that’s what is important to Mr President. It does not matter where you belong. His vision is to bring back hope to Nigerians. And that is why we have done what we have done here today”.
6. The Minister also said that before the year ends, two additional roads will be completed and commissioned in Kwali and commended the Council Chairman Danladi Jiya for proposing to name the road after the popular potter, Ladi Kwali.
7. The Minister said, “Before the chairman asked, as if he was in my mind. A popular Nigerian, a popular African who has in her way contributed to the development of Abuja and therefore it is very important that charity must begin from home and fitting that this road be named Ladi Kwali Road”.
8. He also said although it was not part of the project, but as part of efforts to check insecurity in the area councils, the President has directed that solar lights be provided along the road to illuminate the area.
9. The Minister said, “Mr President said when this road was being done, what about illumination which is to provide security? and I told him it was not part of the project. Mr President has directed that I should make sure that solar light is provided on this road”.
10.In their goodwill messages, both Chairmen Senate Committee on Area Councils and Ancillary Matters. Senator David Jimkuta and the Member representing Abuja South in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulrahman Ajiya agreed that the road will go a long way in tackling insecurity in the area and commended the Minister for bringing hope to the people of Kwali.
11.In his overview of the project, the Coordinator, the Satellite Development Department, Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir commended the FCT Minister for his unwavering determination and commitment to the development of the Satellite Towns and Area Councils, adding that the Minister’s visionary leadership and dedication to improving the lives of the people was truly commendable.
12.The coordinator disclosed that the projects for the bridge and road were awarded on 6th December, 2013 and May 19, 2023 to Messrs Horizon Construction Company Ltd at the Contract sum of N457,247,175.00 and N1,677,212,594.67 respectively while both projects commenced on 12th June, 2014 and February 19, 2024.
13.“Unfortunately, Kwali Bridge, which serve as a link to Kwali Town, was abandoned for years until the intervention of your Excellency which ensured that the Contractor remobilized back to site to continue work on the Bridge on 30th March, 2024”, he explained.
14.Abdulkadir added that the new road will significantly improve access to various parts of the Area Council, linking Kwali town with already developed new layouts and also serve as an alternative route, facilitating smoother and more efficient travel to and from Kwali town and its environs.
15.In his welcome address, the Kwali Area Council Chairman Hon.Danladi Chiya had commended the FCT Minister for the manifestation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President in Kwali and invited him to come to witness the commissioning of other projects executed by the council in alignment with the president’s agenda to bring hope back to the people.
16.While also commending the FCT Minister, the Etsu Kwali HRH Ayedo Luka Nizasaan III stressed that the Minister of the FCT does not necessarily have to be a native before the dividends of democracy reach the people, as exemplified by the actions the Minister.
