AGRICULTURAL SECRETARY EMPHASIZES THE NEED FOR INTERDEPARTMENTAL COLLABORATION…COMMITS TO RESTRUCTURING THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR IN THE FCT
The FCT Administration is fully committed to revitalizing the Agricultural sector in order to ensure a sustainable food supply within the Federal Capital Territory.
Lawan Kolo Geidam, the Mandate Secretary for FCT Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, conveyed this commitment during a meeting where he was briefed by various departments within the Secretariat. He called for a collaborative effort among these departments to achieve their collective objectives.
Geidam stressed the significance of synergy among the departments to align with the overarching goals of the Secretariat, which are in harmony with the agricultural development agenda of the current Administration. He acknowledged the interrelated nature of the departments’ activities and emphasized that their combined efforts are crucial for increasing food production and transforming the agricultural sector into a substantial source of employment and wealth for the growing population. Geidam recognized that working in isolation would not yield the desired results.
Geidam underscored the importance of collaboration and cooperation among the departments for the greater benefit of the Territory’s residents. He stated, “The departments’ activities are interconnected and are all aimed at not only enhancing food production but also making the sector a viable source of employment and wealth creation for our burgeoning population. We cannot achieve this in isolation; all the departments must work together cohesively to accomplish this objective.”
While expressing his contentment with the progress made by the various departments, Geidam also acknowledged that the challenges outlined during the briefings are surmountable, given the high priority that the Administration places on the sector. He expressed optimism that with the commitment of key figures such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, supported by the Honorable Minister of FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, and the Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, these challenges will be addressed. Geidam urged civil servants to approach their responsibilities with sincerity and diligence.
