PROJECT COMMISSIONING: PRESIDENT TINUBU COMMENDS WIKE FOR HIS VISIONARY LEADERSHIP

…AS SOUTHERN PARKWAY IS RENAMED “BOLA AHMED TINUBU WAY”

1.    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for his visionary and inspiring leadership in the FCT.

2.    The President gave the commendation on Tuesday in Abuja while commissioning the Southern Parkway road project which was renamed as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, by the FCT Administration.

3.    The President, who described the FCT Minister as a team leader, said the revolutionary changes he has made in the FCT, both in structure and administration is yielding positive results and elevating the lives of many Nigerians. 

4.    He therefore thanked the Minister for his sincere commitment to shared values and for giving hope to Nigerians.

5.    The President said, “Thank you for giving us this hope and for your sincere commitment to shared values. Well done.  As a team leader, you worked so hard, and tirelessly. I must recognize your vision that is revolutionary and very inspiring to many of our people”.

6.    “The changes you made in the FCT, structure and administration are yielding results and elevating the hearts of many Nigerians. Thank you very much”.

7.    Speaking further, the President also commended the FCT Minister for ensuring the completion of the Southern Parkway which he described as a transformative project that connects vital areas within the FCT.

8.    He said the completion of the Southern Parkway symbolizes the collective aspiration for connectivity, ease of livelihood, accessibility, and progress.

9.    President Tinubu added that the road project will not only ease traffic congestion but also enhance mobility for the residents and visitors to the FCT and thanked the FCT Minister for naming the Southern Parkway after him.

10.In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Wike disclosed that the Southern Parkway contract was awarded in 2010 to Messrs Setraco Ltd at the contract sum of 16.2 billion and was later revised to 35.7 billion due to changes in scope and other economic indices.

11.Barr. Wike added that the Southern Parkway, which stretches from the Christian Centre to Ring Road 1, is made of two main carriageways of 4 lanes each and two service carriageways of two lanes each, making a total of 12 lanes, in addition to other associated underground engineering infrastructure facilities.

12.He said the successful completion of the Southern Parkway, which had lingered for several years, will provide access and connectivity to the southern flank of the city as outlined in the Abuja master plan.

13.He added the completion of the project will also complement the developed portions of the Northern Parkway by easing the traffic congestion experienced in the Southern Districts of Garki, Gudu and Durumi and bring improved socioeconomic benefits to FCT residents and other Nigerians.

14.Barr. Wike, who also stated that the current FCT Administration, on assumption of office, was confronted with many uncompleted projects, which have now been completed in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President,  thanked the President for his unflinching support.

15.Also speaking, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud thanked the President, members of the National Assembly and FCT residents, including religious and traditional rulers for their invaluable support to the FCT Administration.

16.Dr Mahmoud also expressed appreciation to the FCT Minister and other officials of the FCT Administration whose dedication and hard work ensured the successful completion of projects in the FCT,
